What is Numerology?

Friday, August 13th, 2010

Numerology is the study of the code which translates an individual’s full name at birth and birthday into their life blueprint. It explains the soul’s journey, provides an overview and road map of their life, their cycles of growth and development, challenges and karmic lessons and offers a new perspective of their life. Knowing the spiritual truths results in a fresh view and appreciation of theirself.
While most of us go through life wondering who we are and what our life is really about, the most incredible thing is that this information was encoded into us when we were first named. There are many systems of numerology practiced around the world, the most frequently used in the Western world is the Pythagorean. Developed in the early 1900s, it carries the least karma and empowers individuals to understand and expand into their full potential.

Here’s a little history and broader framework with which to understand things today. The number “1” influenced the millennium from 1000 – 1999. 1 represents masculine energy: the desire to be numero uno. During those years, people believed there was 1 “out-there” who had the answers. Usually male, it was the king, the president, the pope, the tribal chief…and lots of slaves, serfs, the downtrodden below. However in 1999, that millennia ended and that cycle completed.
With the year 2000, the world progressed into the influence of “2” and at that time, we all flowed into a new and unfamiliar place. It began new game — with new rules.
With the year 2001 the unfolding of the plan for the Divine Feminine and the Divine Masculine to come into balance began. Since we are now only 2010, there are 990 years left in which to accomplish this. So while 1 was about “me”, and “my way” being the right/and only way we are in the beginning days of learning “us” “we” “our way – collectively. “2” represents the feminine. Its symbol is the moon. Its goal is peace, harmony, cooperation and community. Rather than a mental concept – its about things that cannot be put into words: energies, symbols, feelings. 2 is teaching us patience, timing and how to flow with life. Whereas “1” said “I think”, “2” says I feel, I sense and intuit. Women are now in roles never previously open to them and that will continue. Few among us presently believe anyone knows everything…certainly not any state or religious leader. We are coming to understand what each of us thinks is valuable. People are recognizing the importance of the “grassroots.” The need for community cooperation is daily becoming more obvious. While many people in positions of power (most of them men) are still holding on to the old ways…thinking might is right…for many others, ways to accomplishing peace are becoming more of a priority.

Whether in trying to understand yourself, those around you, or the world today, the ancient study of Numerology (updated for modern times) has much to offer.

Happy Birthday July kids!
Your birthstones are Ruby and Carnelian…ummm. Both stones come in several different lovely colors!

Here are the meanings of the numbers. Understand like all things in life, numbers have both a positive and a negative side. The more conscious people become, the more they express from the positive. These are just the basic meanings, all numbers have fuller descriptions.

1. = Courage and individuality. The leader, the boss, the pioneer, the visionary. Negative side: Bossy; dominant; know-it-all; poor listener.

2. = Peace and harmony. The follower, the team person, the diplomat. Intuitive and sensitive. Negative side: self-conscious; self-depreciating; timid; too occupied with detail.

3. = Joy and Creativity. Gifted, lucky, imaginative, optimistic, good sense of humor. Negative side: lack of direction; messy/cluttered, can talk away their dreams and accomplish nothing.

4. = Construction and organization. Positive side: Down-to-earth, practical, systematic. Negative side: Stubborn, fixed opinions, exactness, lack of imagination.

5. = Freedom and expansion. Positive side: Good communicator, promoter, loves adventure. Negative side; restless, too many irons in the fire, afraid of commitment.

6. = Responsibility and relationships. Positive side: Devoted, service oriented, artistic. Negative side: Co-dependant, self-sacrificing, smothering.

7. = Wisdom and understanding. Positive side: Scientific, computer whiz, spiritual. Negative side: Sarcastic, cynical; secretive.

8. = Balance and authority. Positive side: Successful, efficient, authority. Negative side: Controlling, self-righteous, judgmental.

9. = Forgiveness and compassion. Understanding, philosophical, dramatic, love of beauty. Negative side: Depressed, possessive, moody, feels obligated to “save” the world.

The double-digit numbers 11, 22, 33 and 44 are considered Master Numbers. They are special and complicated and will be covered separately.

Chinese Numerology

Thursday, June 10th, 2010

I was recently zoning out on an acupuncture table and a new thought floated in: I began wondering if there was such a thing as Chinese numerology.. This seemed pretty amazing considering I’ve been receiving acupuncture treatments for about the same 30-some years that I’ve been doing Numerology.

So I came home and did a search and discovered: Yes! For over four thousand years! It is the basis for Fung Shui and the I Ching. Chinese Numerology (which incorporates the 5 Elements) used only birth dates. Now, in modern times, many combine it with the Pythagorean numerology I practice in order to be able to read names.

In my work, I especially value the insights offered through the cycles – which are determined by the birthday numbers. It dawned on me that I learned about these cycles (called Challenges, Pinnacles and Personal years) from Dr. Juno Jordan’s landmark book “Numerology, The Romance in Your Name” in which she says she learned numerology from a woman who just returned from China. Wow! That meant I had been doing some form of Chinese numerology all along!

Trying to incorporate more of the Chinese into my work, I’ve become fascinated with the Luo Shui Square. It determines which of the 5 Elements you are missing and offers “cures.” So (being an “instant everything” American) I’m going to present you with a minuscule portion of a lifetime study Please don’t think you know Chinese numerology. But play with this and tell me what you think. Use your full birth date..

WOOD is associated with CREATIVITY. If you are missing 3s or 4s, surround yourself with living woods: trees, plants, grass, potted plants or objects made of wood.

EARTH gives people STABILITY in their lives and helps them reach their goals – it enhances determination. If you are missing 2s, 5s, or 8s, surround yourself with objects that come from the ground (no metal). Quartz crystals make a useful cure.

METAL is associated with RICHES & VALOUR. It empowers people to stand up for their beliefs. If you are missing 6s or 7s wear a ring or bracelet made of gold or silver or carrying gold or silver coins.

FIRE is associated with ENTHUSIAM and MOTIVATION. It has the magical quality of being able to reveal the truth by bringing it to light. If you are missing 9s, surround yourself with bright objects that give out light or anything that is red or relates to fire.

WATER is associated with the ability to break down boundaries by communication. It can remove stumbling blocks and pave the way for better things in life. If you are missing 1s (which applies to many born after the year 2,000) surround yourself with anything that is blue or black but water itself is the best remedy, like an aquarium, a small pond or view of a lake.

Happy Birthday June kids – your birthstones are moonstone and opal.
