Choices…and the number 5…and my April travel schedule.

March 11th, 2010

5 is the number (or represents the qualities) that I have in the highest proportion. My name at birth totals to 5…my birthday totals to 5 and I have a 5 on the Mental Plane. This means I think like a 5. 5 is about choices, change, expansion, letting go – moving on, travel and basically lives its life “outside the box”.

I can recognize “choice” in so many aspects of my life. Living in Santa Fe (NM) I am not close to any of my kids or their children – and miss them a lot – but not enough to live in the same city as any of them do. So the choice here is .. to live my own life or be near my family. However, an additional aspect of choice is saying: yes, I chose this…(or as my mother would say…I made my bed and now I can sleep in it) but 5 often doesn’t really want to choose…it wants to have it all. So my life long question is how to reconcile these aspects of myself.

Right now, I am visiting my daughter and her family and my twin granddaughters, on break from college, have been with us. I am sure going to miss everyone when I leave. But at the same time it will be nice to be back in my own life again. And so, to talk about traveling…in April I will be in the Natchez, Mississippi area. If you know anyone there…please pass on my schedule.

March 1st, 10th and 19th!

February 28th, 2010

Numerologically, March 1, 10 and 19 all ad to 7.
7 is a good day to be careful. Look below the surface…pause and ask lots of questions before making decisions. To quote an old Arab saying, Trust Allah but tether your camel.
If you are feeling alone and misunderstood, loosen up a bit and bring some humor to the situation.
March is a 3 month in this 3 year…so approach things creatively and smile.
More later!

Symbols and Community

February 16th, 2010

Have you ever questioned all this “social networking” most of us are participating in? You can join a community on Amazon or Facebook or Twitter or for artists or to reunite with old classmates (whose names – if you are like me – you might not remember) or meet a partner, or write a blog to broadcast your opinions around the world, or, or, or… And have you noticed how important symbols have become? Nothing happens if you write / when you mean . or % instead of @.

One of the benefits of this computer age is that we’re getting hawk-like vision (and more and more people are wearing glasses). The other day, I e-mailed an invitation to the opening reception for my new paintings and included my web address www.ruthdrayer.com. My son Jay quickly spotted that I had written “/” instead of “.” – so anyone who tried to click on it, got nowhere.

What’s interesting (numerologically) is that both are things “2” symbolizes. Beginning 2001 and ending 2999, our focus it on learning to use our hearts together with our heads. Anyone who thinks he/she understands (intellectually) what is going on these days, is relying on old information. Everything in our life is undergoing change and we are becoming more fragile in our checkbooks and our hearts as well..

And we have something to “blame” – its the “2”! Its like trying to control a handful of water. This millennium is about feeling and sensing our way, rather than knowing it. And by the end, we will be doing it collectively. During the last thousand years, we really believed there was “1” person who could explain things to us and lead us out of it. Now its going to be a group effort. We will come to understand that no one person has all the answers. We, the “grassroots,” each carry truth…and by discussing it and coming into consensus we’ll create our path.

In January, I wrote about 2010 being a “3” year. 3 represents communication and words. It seems to me this year, 2010 , it will be urgent to pay attention to what we say and how we use our words. If we use them to depress and drag us down, we are joining mass consciousness and not helping. However, if we use them to inspire and uplift us –we are making a contribution to ourselves and our lives today. Now that the social networking is making us aware of our connectedness, let’s make a group effort to lighten up and bring more humor and creativity into our lives.

Happy birthday February kids…The birthstone this month is Amethyst…a purple quartz that blends violet and red. www.americangemsociety.org.

Is your life filled with 4s?

January 23rd, 2010

A common question these days…and it needs to be addressed (particularly in a 3 year) …is how to think outside the box. The number for a box is 4. Four is symbolized by a square and four-sided squares certainly resemble a box. So pretty much, our lives are filled with 4s.

For us lucky ones who have homes, unless our house is round or we live in a yurt, its filled with rooms that are square…maybe oblong… but if it has corners, basically its a box.

We drive our (pretty much box-like) cars on streets which are laid out as straight as possible with angles intersecting the straight lines — few cities have circles. And once we had the opportunity to “jump on the freeway” we no longer used roads that meadered. Then we drive to stores or office buildings that are…boxes! where some people even work in cubicles.

Lately, when I get an idea that might be totally obvious to anyone other than myself, I recognise that I exchanged my “tunnel-vision” for  a new possibility. That happened to me this morning!

Now that I’m living in Santa Fe, I am in  the smallest apartment in my rememberable history. My square computer sits on a square desk in my square bedroom in my square little house. Actually, now that I think about it, it shares the same room with my square bed and some other square furniture.

And with days and days of cold, grey, snowy weather, I’m staying home a lot and feeling stiffled. This morning, I rearranged all the furniture. When I first moved in, I thought this arrangement was the only way and never saw any other possibilites until today!  Whew! Boy! Did I need that! I’m now enjoying sitting at my computer when just yesterday, I was feeling “boxed” – in.

Sooo…I have solutions to living outside the box: 1st one is to think round…not only bring more circles into your life but vary your pathways and don’t take the straight path if you can avoid it! Another plan is to not do the same old familiar thing, but ask  yourself…how many other ways can this be done!

Comfort zones may be comfortable but having to think wakes up our brains. Straight may be faster…but so what?  Its not always the most fun!
