What is Numerology?

Friday, August 13th, 2010

Numerology is the study of the code which translates an individual’s full name at birth and birthday into their life blueprint. It explains the soul’s journey, provides an overview and road map of their life, their cycles of growth and development, challenges and karmic lessons and offers a new perspective of their life. Knowing the spiritual truths results in a fresh view and appreciation of theirself.
While most of us go through life wondering who we are and what our life is really about, the most incredible thing is that this information was encoded into us when we were first named. There are many systems of numerology practiced around the world, the most frequently used in the Western world is the Pythagorean. Developed in the early 1900s, it carries the least karma and empowers individuals to understand and expand into their full potential.

Here’s a little history and broader framework with which to understand things today. The number “1” influenced the millennium from 1000 – 1999. 1 represents masculine energy: the desire to be numero uno. During those years, people believed there was 1 “out-there” who had the answers. Usually male, it was the king, the president, the pope, the tribal chief…and lots of slaves, serfs, the downtrodden below. However in 1999, that millennia ended and that cycle completed.
With the year 2000, the world progressed into the influence of “2” and at that time, we all flowed into a new and unfamiliar place. It began new game — with new rules.
With the year 2001 the unfolding of the plan for the Divine Feminine and the Divine Masculine to come into balance began. Since we are now only 2010, there are 990 years left in which to accomplish this. So while 1 was about “me”, and “my way” being the right/and only way we are in the beginning days of learning “us” “we” “our way – collectively. “2” represents the feminine. Its symbol is the moon. Its goal is peace, harmony, cooperation and community. Rather than a mental concept – its about things that cannot be put into words: energies, symbols, feelings. 2 is teaching us patience, timing and how to flow with life. Whereas “1” said “I think”, “2” says I feel, I sense and intuit. Women are now in roles never previously open to them and that will continue. Few among us presently believe anyone knows everything…certainly not any state or religious leader. We are coming to understand what each of us thinks is valuable. People are recognizing the importance of the “grassroots.” The need for community cooperation is daily becoming more obvious. While many people in positions of power (most of them men) are still holding on to the old ways…thinking might is right…for many others, ways to accomplishing peace are becoming more of a priority.

Whether in trying to understand yourself, those around you, or the world today, the ancient study of Numerology (updated for modern times) has much to offer.

Happy Birthday August kids — your birthstones are Peridot and Sardonyx.

March 1st, 10th and 19th!

Sunday, February 28th, 2010

Numerologically, March 1, 10 and 19 all ad to 7.
7 is a good day to be careful. Look below the surface…pause and ask lots of questions before making decisions. To quote an old Arab saying, Trust Allah but tether your camel.
If you are feeling alone and misunderstood, loosen up a bit and bring some humor to the situation.
March is a 3 month in this 3 year…so approach things creatively and smile.
More later!

Symbols and Community

Tuesday, February 16th, 2010

Have you ever questioned all this “social networking” most of us are participating in? You can join a community on Amazon or Facebook or Twitter or for artists or to reunite with old classmates (whose names – if you are like me – you might not remember) or meet a partner, or write a blog to broadcast your opinions around the world, or, or, or… And have you noticed how important symbols have become? Nothing happens if you write / when you mean . or % instead of @.

One of the benefits of this computer age is that we’re getting hawk-like vision (and more and more people are wearing glasses). The other day, I e-mailed an invitation to the opening reception for my new paintings and included my web address www.ruthdrayer.com. My son Jay quickly spotted that I had written “/” instead of “.” – so anyone who tried to click on it, got nowhere.

What’s interesting (numerologically) is that both are things “2” symbolizes. Beginning 2001 and ending 2999, our focus it on learning to use our hearts together with our heads. Anyone who thinks he/she understands (intellectually) what is going on these days, is relying on old information. Everything in our life is undergoing change and we are becoming more fragile in our checkbooks and our hearts as well..

And we have something to “blame” – its the “2”! Its like trying to control a handful of water. This millennium is about feeling and sensing our way, rather than knowing it. And by the end, we will be doing it collectively. During the last thousand years, we really believed there was “1” person who could explain things to us and lead us out of it. Now its going to be a group effort. We will come to understand that no one person has all the answers. We, the “grassroots,” each carry truth…and by discussing it and coming into consensus we’ll create our path.

In January, I wrote about 2010 being a “3” year. 3 represents communication and words. It seems to me this year, 2010 , it will be urgent to pay attention to what we say and how we use our words. If we use them to depress and drag us down, we are joining mass consciousness and not helping. However, if we use them to inspire and uplift us –we are making a contribution to ourselves and our lives today. Now that the social networking is making us aware of our connectedness, let’s make a group effort to lighten up and bring more humor and creativity into our lives.
